the Patrol Division is the most visible, recognizable and called upon
division within the department. The Patrol Division consists

lieutenant. The officers operate
marked patrol cars enforcing state and local laws. Patrol
Officers are also responsible
for a wide variety of duties including basic investigations, accident

Police Bicycle Patrol, the Police Beach Patrol
and the Animal Control Unit.

the patrol of neighborhoods in
an effort to prevent burglaries and other thefts. The Nags Head
Police Bicycle Patrol consists of five police officers who, during the
course of their shift, will patrol a selected area of town on bicycle
and then return back to the patrol car for the remainer of the
shift. The Nags Head Police Bicycle Patrol operates year round
and is one of the most utilized Bicycle Patrol of any of the Departments in
the area. |
The purpose of the Police Beach Patrol is enable
officers to enforce laws on the town beaches which during the summer
month days are the most populated areas in town. The Beach
Patrol has been effective in enforcing state laws, town code
violations and also in assisting Nags Head Ocean Rescue with any calls
to service they may have. The Beach Patrol consists of two
officers who patrol the beaches on ATV's during the summer months when
the beaches are the most populated. The Town of Nags Head Police
Division is one of the only departments in the area to provide a
constant police presence on the beaches during the summer months. |
